Women for Election Australia (WFEA) will host former Bega Valley Shire mayor and Labor candidate for Eden-Monaro Kristy McBain on an online seminar exploring the importance of more women running in politics.
As well as sharing her insights into overcoming the challenges of running for office as a woman, Ms McBain will provide practical tips and advice to other women also considering running, no matter which level of government.
WFEA CEO Licia Heath said it was pleasing that Ms McBain was standing, and that as a woman she was not alone as several other women have also announced they will run for the Eden-Monaro by-election on July 4.
“If we’re to improve the balance of women in our federal parliament, we’ll need more contests in which women feature heavily,” Ms Heath said.
“WFEA has embraced the bold ambition of training at least 2000 women to run for office by the next federal election, scheduled for 2022.”
The online seminar is on Thursday, May 28 from 3pm and is the first in a series called In Conversations.

WFEA is a non-partisan, not-for-profit which aims to strengthen our democracy by increasing the number, influence and diversity of women in politics in Australia and by engaging more women in the political process.
