The new Morrison government could boost its female representation in the lower house by as much a third in a result that hinges on final counting in four knife-edge electorates.

Former MP Julie Bishop, replaced by fellow Liberal Celia Hammond in the WA electorate of Curtin, welcomed the result as proof the Coalition had “recognised that the community supports greater female representation in the federal Parliament”.
